  • Project Lead in Medicinal Chemistry 100%

At Welmedis, we drive drug discovery through cutting-edge science and advanced technologies to develop innovative therapies. Our focus is on accelerating preclinical development for targeted cancer treatments. With automation, innovation, and a relentless focus on results, our approach is built for precision. This is where next-gen research meets real-world impact — and it’s just the beginning.

As Welmedis continues to expand its research and development activities in Wädenswil, we are seeking to strengthen our scientific team to support sustainable growth and innovation. For this reason, we are looking for an organic chemist for our interdisciplinary R&D team. The role combines hands-on synthesis work in the laboratory with scientific documentation and the use of computational tools as an important pillar for medicinal chemistry research to work on the development of highly selective and highly potent new compounds for personalized cancer therapy.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Using MOE (Molecular Operating Environment) as computational tools for virtual compound library screening to identify new scaffolds and new chemical structures
    • Using MOE as a tool to support the research and development of new target molecules
    • Using molecular dynamics MD for modeling to support the research
    • Plan and conduct scientific experiments in the lab to create and refine target molecules
    • Follow health and safety guidelines and safe working practices
    • Undertake data analysis to assess the results of experiments and the characteristics of the synthesized molecules
    • Ensure that the structure and purity of the new compounds are correct
    • Collaborate closely with our biologist, analytical chemist, international external cooperation partners and research teams to contribute towards the company’s pipeline projects
    • Contribute to the critical evaluation and selection of new targets
    • Publish science in high-quality journals and publications
    • Give presentations on projects both at internal meetings and externally at conferences

    Requirements and Qualifications:

    • PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry is required
    • Several years of experience using computational tools for virtual compound library screening in academia or industry, in the field of small molecules
    • Several years of experience with MOE and molecular dynamics in drug discovery
    • Experience in project management or project leadership is an advantage
    • Understanding of related scientific disciplines that are relevant to drug discovery and early development such as target validation, pharmacology, DMPK, ADME and structural biology
    • Records of publication in scientific reviewed journals or patents
    • State-of-the-art organic synthesis knowledge, purification and analytical characterization, including HPLC, MS, and NMR
    • Culturally sensitive, enjoy working in international teams and have a desire and willingness to expand the area of expertise
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English

    We offer

    • An international, growing company focused on cancer drug discovery and research
    • Flat hierarchy with direct communication and short decision paths
    • 40-hour work week with fair overtime compensation
    • 25 vacation days per year and complete flexible holiday planning
    • Attractive social insurance and pension benefits
